Interesting because.....
By Scout Leader
As the previous reviewer stated, at least some of the factual information in this books seems to be radically different than what has been recently accepted as fact based on a popular movie and internet searches. I, too, was disappointed because of these discrepancies and wanted to stop reading. But I realized that this book was based on interview information received by the author from the subject herself at least 6 years before she died. The author is an academic and is still listed as faculty at the University of Alberta. It isn't likely that she would fabricate so much of her information, particularly since the book was printed while the subject was still alive. What seems to me to be more likely is that this was an opportunity for the subject to change her biography, whether as an intensely private person, she had no intention of telling a full truth, or by way of need to having to change it due to whim, fancy, or personal necessity. What a brilliant way to be in full charge of one's life story: by having a known academic write it under the guise of research and having it accepted as fact. That, to me, is much more telling of the subject than any book could possibly be.

As it turns out, this is less a biographical essay on Ms. Travers, than an analysis of her works. Her opinions and thoughts are sprinkled throughout, but the analyses seem to formulated by the acadamian rather than Travers herself.

Factual Inaccuracies Abound
By zamphir
I needed this book for research purposes, but upon some cross referencing, found more than a few glaring factual errors. Aunt Helen Morehead is incorrectly named "Christina Saraset" (a character from Aunt Sass), the date of birth is wrong, the father's occupation is wrong...I am sure there are many, many more errors, but I had to stop reading after the first couple of chapters.
