Totally awesome new Henry Bins installment, a Must Read!

Wow, this was totally amazing! The Henry Bins series just keeps getting better and better. Lots of excitement in this installment. Henry learns a lot more about his mother and her activities with the CIA over the years. He learns about his father too, will leave you to read all about that yourself. There are some great scenes with Lassie and Murdock, LOL scenes. I love those two, they are a wonderful counter balance to Henry's sometimes awful past history and current nightmare session. I love almost all of the characters in this series, (not Henry's mother), I love that Lassie talks to Henry. I've always had cats and have wished many times that I knew what they were thinking.

In the Author's Note Nick states the following: "I have the remaining two books outlined and I'm being completely serious when I say they are going to BLOW YOUR FREAKING MIND." I'm sure they will Nick, but what do you mean REMAINING TWO BOOKS? Does Henry really have to end, and Ingrid, Murdock, Lassie, Henry's dad?? No, no, please, they're like family now, I love them all, you made me love them. I hope I'm not the only one who doesn't want this series to end. I encourage anyone who reads this review who loves Henry and his family to tell Nick not to stop writing about them. I understand Nick, that you want to move on to new things, new stories, new characters, but would you at least consider writing about Henry in between your other endeavors? You have an amazing imagination, all your books are fun to read, but Henry and family are really special.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME

I have been waiting for the next Henry Bins book since I read the last in the series. These books are so unique and a different kind of mystery. I read the first book in the series, 3 am, and really wasn't sure that I would like it because it seems kind of depressing for a guy to only get 1 hour out of 24 awake but it was so funny and crazy that I loved it. After I read the 3rd in the series, 3:21 am, I was so shocked and entertained and waiting for this book. This book has many twist that I totally did not catch until the end. Absolutely some of the funniest dialogue I've ever read in any book is between cat, Lassie, and Henry. I'm convinced that cat talks with his meow or Henry actually speaks cat. I love when Henry googles things Lassie tells him. Awesome book but start at the first in the series, 3 am, it's so much easier to get wrapped up in the story.

Memories for me

This love story made me think of a couple of my first loves. That all consuming desire to be together all the time and the hot kisses from a first love. Especially for a 64 year old. Just don't like details too descriptive in the sex leave something to the imagination :)

An Interesting Read

The concept is great but the execution could use some work. There are a few typos throughout. I love the idea and it seemed like it would be a fun read for a month.

The problem is that the ideas are not fleshed out at all. More Scripture to back up the concepts would be fantastic. Maybe tie the stories to a character or event from the Bible.

I would love to see this in a second edition because the ideas was a great one.

Excellent reference book for the WHW collector!

Superb reference book for Third Reich memorabilia, with its focus on WHW donation badges, pins, etc. The book is well-organized and nicely constructed; however, the large color photos are invaluable in making identification of a huge array of collectibles. Finally, the design of the book - a checklist itemization and the wire binder - lends itself for use as a collector's portable reference to his collection. All in all, a fine work!

Much like their previous effort Cassidy & Alexander have created another very usefull book for collectors. Full of great colour photos. What really stands out is the fantastic selection of Tag der Wehrmacht items.

Highly recommended for collectors of donation items of the various Third Reich organizations.

About the Author
William Irwin is professor of Philosophy and Director of the Honors Program at King’s College in Pennsylvania. In addition to publishing in leading scholarly journals such as Philosophy and Literature and The Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, Irwin originated the philosophy and popular culture genre of books with Seinfeld and Philosophy in 1999. Irwin has also co-edited The Simpsons and Philosophy and edited The Matrix and Philosophy and Metallica and Philosophy. He is currently the General Editor of the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture series.

David Kyle Johnson is assistant professor of Philosophy at King’s College in Pennsylvania. In addition to his scholarly work on philosophy of religion, Johnson has edited Heroes and Philosophy and is also a contributor to the Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture series, having written chapters on South Park, Family Guy, The Office, Battlestar Galactica, and Batman. A dual treat!

This book is self-described as a textbook intended for Philosophy classes in upper schools and universities as a companion to original texts by major philosophers.

The book does an excellent job of summarizing major ideas using popular television shows, books, movies, and music. Additionally, however, I found the study of how philosophy permeates these forms of entertainment and our basic culture to be doubly fascinating.

The book is a compilation of articles, each written by a different author, focusing on a general idea developed in pop culture. One of the best articles I found was about ethics (the concepts of right and wrong). The writer examined the ideas of Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill (the basic idea that what is good for the most people is always best) and Deontology (the idea that morals are more important for an individual) by Immanuel Kant with an article about superheroes entitled "Why Doesn't Batman Kill the Joker?"

Other highlights include a piece on existence and identity in the movie "The Matrix," an article examining ideas by Nietzche and Marx in Metallica songs, development of a society in "Lost, and an item on destiny and free will in the world of "Harry Potter."

The book does have an emphasis on shows such as "Battlestar Galactica," "The Office," "South Park" and "House." Though I am not as familiar with these programs as with the movies discussed, all of the articles are accessible to the reader with just a slight exposure. The tome also includes articles using "X-Men," "The Colbert Report," "The Terminator," "Twilight," "Heroes," "Watchmen, "Family Guy," and "24."

I found the book a good refresher of many of the basic concepts I learned in a few courses in my past studies. Though not stressed by the authors, a reader with a critical eye may also be able to spot how these philosophical ideas have endured and filter into our daily life activities, including leisure and pop culture.

A "must read"

This is an accessible and enjoyable text book - a great introduction to the world of philosophy. Every library should have a copy. The chapter on The Terminator was fabulous.

Interesting, but Arcane

I like it, but he mixes arcane (probably largely irrelevant) concepts with familiar cultural anchors. South Park, itself, is not probably part of the cultural vernacular in a way that his methods work. A lot of his examples appeal to a particular population (sic-fi, fantasy, etc). It works to show his curiosities, which I appreciate, but, at either end of the spectrum, his examples of culture and philosophy are probably too disparate for the reader to walk away with any coherent connection they could use in a classroom or in a conversation apart from this book.
