About the Author
Terence Shimp is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina where he was a faculty member for 29 years and earned a number of teaching awards, including the Amoco Foundation Award. The former W. W. Johnson Distinguished Foundation Fellow and Chair of the Marketing Department in the Moore School of Business, Dr. Shimp also taught at Kent University. He has published widely in marketing, consumer behavior, and advertising, and received the American Academy of Advertising's lifetime award for outstanding contributions to research in advertising. Past president of the Association for Consumer Research, as well as the Journal of Consumer Research policy board, Dr. Shimp has represented the Federal Trade Commission and various state agencies as an expert witness in issues concerning advertising deception and unfairness. Terence A. Shimp received his doctorate from the University of Maryland.

J. Craig Andrews is Professor and Charles H. Kellstadt Chair in Marketing at Marquette University, where he has been faculty for 27 years. A visiting professor with Coca-Cola Foods and Fitzgerald & Co. advertising agency, he has also consulted for the Wisconsin Tobacco Control Board, Federal Trade Commission, and Food and Drug Administration. His written work has appeared in Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Current Issues and Research in Advertising, Journal of Retailing, European Journal of Marketing, Journal of International Business Studies, American Journal of Public Health, and other publications. A former Editor of the Journal of Public Policy & Marketing, Dr. Andrews was twice named Reviewer of the Year. Currently serving on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's Risk Communication Advisory Committee, his broad experience also includes work for the National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign and the Federal Trade Commission (for which he earned the F.T.C.'s Award for Meritorious Service). Dr. Andrews received a Ph.D. in Marketing from the University of South Carolina.

Best Book on Chiron Healing to Date

Looking for a book on Chironic healing? Then look no further. Finally, after the initial discovery of Chiron in 1977, an astrologer has managed to decode Chiron's true meaning.

While there are definitely several excellent books in print on the basics of Chiron (Barbara Hand Clow, Melanie Reinhart, Richard Nolle and Zane Stein, for instance), Martin is the only astrologer, to my knowledge, who has actually gotten to the core of Chiron's essence: healing.

As an astrologer myself, I find his research an invaluable aide, and look forward to utilizing his methods in my own practice.

As someone with a strong Chiron presence in my own natal chart, I devoured the explanations (and even understood them!) he has so meticulously composed. The book flows well and is perfectly organized, which satisfies my Mercury-in-Virgo-driven-by-Pluto-in-Leo nature. Not surprising, since Martin's Mercury is also in Virgo and conjunct his Pluto.

Although one reviewer seemed to be irritated at Martin's frequent reference to the `gift in the wound,' the fact is, that is the whole point of his work: the gift is in the wound. As Martin points out, once the key to Chiron has been found and its healing essence accessed, it's only a matter of time before the native will discover that what they've historically believed to be their bane, has actually turned out to be the best part of and the key to understanding who they are and why they are here.

As for a more in-depth treatment of Chiron in and in aspect to the Houses: there's always someone who begins the process, which is necessary. Maybe it's up to someone else out there to provide that extra treatment one feels -- in their opinion -- is lacking.

Remember: we all stand on the shoulders of others, regardless of what we do. Without astrologers such as Martin Lass we might not have made it even this far.

This Book is Wonderful

When I ordered this book I did not realize how much of a jem it truly was. Martin touches on details that I have not found in any other book. Such as anaretic degrees and many other things not usually considered. His words are poetic and gentle as he explores this archetype and it's symbolism. Truly a great read for anyone wanting to get a clearer view of Chiron in the natal chart, as well as in the heavens.

HMS Hermes and the Virgin Sailor is an auto-biographical coming-of-age narrative telling an enviable story, with brutal honesty, of how arrogance overcame youthful naivety, inexperience and vulnerability, at a time of promiscuity when Britain still had a large Commonwealth and military bases around the World. In 1967 a frightened young boy, of 15 years of age, travelled half the length of the country, on his own, to join the Royal Navy. With-in a year he finds himself in the Far East. He was desperate to be an adult and do adult things. He heard stories of the antics of seasoned sailors, in exotic countries, and dreamed of living the experiences for himself. He grew up without the love of a mother and was confused by emotions displayed by others and the needs of young girls. He was seduced by a woman, three times his age, which resulted in him being adrift on his new ship after being on board for less than 24 hrs. His first round of punishment and notoriety followed. A sophisticated mature lady, in Cape Town, showed him the needs of a woman and taught him the secrets of successful love-making. However, these new-found skills were used to his selfish benefit to take advantage of other young girls. Faint hearted feminists may find some parts offensive. The story tells of an immature young man getting into trouble, thinking about getting into trouble or being punished for being in trouble. During the voyage around the Far East he was bullied and victimised but eventually enjoyed his revenge. By his return, ten months later, he had been tutored, experienced and found confidence. He was cocky and arrogant yet his ego finally imploded on himself on his return to Portsmouth. The narrative is a roller coaster of adventure with suspense, surprise, emotion, erotica and lots of humour. This story needs to be told. No-one can re-live this. No-one now can join the military at fifteen years of age. The military bases have disappeared from Singapore and Hong Kong. The Vietnam War is over. Apartheid no longer exists in South Africa and Australia has estranged itself from Britain. Promiscuity has been replaced with a fear of aids. This is a true story. I was that Virgin Sailor.

About the Author
Christopher P Clark was brought up in a small village in the Fens of England, badly educated and destined for a life of crime. He joined the Royal Navy where he had a second chance of education. He served 17 years, mostly in the submarine service. On leaving the Navy he was employed by a company selling light house equipment. He travelled the World installing new equipments and converting old systems to solar power. Chris then joined the printing industry followed by the packaging industry. In the early nineties he started his own business. He went bust twice and then got the formula right and made some money. He was married twice, divorced twice and lost all his money twice. In 2007, aged 56, he packed all his possessions into the back of a motor home and moved to Spain. Chris built his own house, single handed, where he now lives with his new beautiful Colombian wife. There are many stories to tell. HMS Hermes was just three years of a very interesting life – which has not yet finished.

A book from the time when official numbers were smaller, but the waves were bigger.

Can't recommend this book highly enough. Gave it 5 stars on not only because it is a great read, it also happens to be the number of days it took me to read it.
This book is a fantastic look into the life of Jack that all former matelows will recognise. You'll chortle away at some of the dits and each time you look up from the page, you'll be hunting for a lantern to swing. I'm sure it was Chris Clark who led my dad astray in Singapore but the scary thing about most of the stories are that they could be true of the "incidents" going on when I joined the RN in '87 myself.
A well written book that you'll not be able to put down and a great deployment book for those serving now. The only downside is the lack of pictures so the Reggie's might need to get a friend to read it to them ;)

Wildly entertaining

I am an avid reader and usually stick to my favorite authors but occasionally I stray to a new author. I was intrigued by the title so decided to try the book . what I found was a wildly entertaining and funny account of the author's time in the British navy. As a Very young, adventurous and naive sailor, he found himself constantly in insubordination. I found myself silently begging for him to come to his senses before he found himself yet again in trouble with his superiors.
Well written and certainly engaging even to a female not familiar with the mechanics of a ship. A few typos but nothing to distract from the enjoyment of the book. I would recommend this book to all adult readers

Moreover, geometric interpretations are given along with analytic expressions. This enables students to make use of geometric intuition, which is a precious tool for studying geometry and related problems.

Finally, a book on differential geometry for someone who doesn't already know it.

I have been looking for a really long time for a decent introduction to differential geometry. I rate this one 5 stars just because out of all the books I have gotten from my school library (probably about 10 by now), this one is the only one I have seen that doesn't assume that you already are good with all the shorthand notation that is often used in texts on differential geometry. It has been really frustrating to find a simple explanation of the symbols used in most of these books, and none of them, though they claimed to be introductions to the topic, ever really explained themselves adequately. Basically, this book has been the only one so far that has been able to bridge the gap for me between the sort of undergraduate mathematics I am used to and differential geometry. I had previously felt like there was this nearly impenetrable barrier - created by some sort of inner circle that I had to belong to, either by taking a class or having it explained to me by someone who was already familiar with it - that I was just going to have to but my head up against until I broke it down.

But fortunately this book came along, which has made the whole thing very simple for me, and is at just the right level so that when I finish it off, I can go off into those other textbooks that seemed to have been written in a different language and be able to understand what they are saying!

I give this book a 5 star rating for the above reasons, coupled with the fact that this book actually has all the answers (nearly) for the problems in the back - why on earth don't most books just put the darned answers in the back? Otherwise, how do you know if you are doing the problems correctly, I think its rather ridiculous - I surely learn the most when I see that I have done a problem the wrong way, and I go hunting for errors, and usually either find something trivial, or have to rework my entire conception of the idea - which would be impossible without the answers! Either way, this is a good book that really takes you from the basics and gets you into the door on this interesting subject!

Needlessly complicating

The shipping of the book was timely and the cost was fine - the actually textbook is horrible. I spend more time trying to figure out what figure, definition or example the author is referring to than I do actually trying to understand the material. My professor has to give out page numbers for the homework because instead of assigning #1-6 of section 2.1 as you'd say in other textbooks, you have to say do #1-6 of chapter 2 section 2.2.1. I'm sure it sounds petty, but I really would like something straightforward in the formatting when I'm trying to approach a subject I've never seen before.
