I have never given a book a bad review, until today.

I was approached by someone new to the Craft who started reading this book and became confused and lost. I offered to read the book and give her some insight. I was 100% mislead by the 5 star rating. I was barely 3 pages in before I started shaking my head. I only kept reading so that I could give an accurate review to the newbie and on Amazon. I can not believe that it actually has a 5 star rating!! The author ping pongs all over the map without ever giving any really useful information. What good is knowing the format of a ritual if you don't know how to conduct the ritual? How can you say that you are the only tool you need and then go on to say, "these are the other tools you need?" She uses witchcraft and Wicca interchangeably, and that drives me utterly crazy! She talks about how you can be a witch but still be a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu or atheist, then turns around and witches generally follow a religion called Wicca. She talks about “the witchcraft code of conduct” as being “Mind the Threefold Law you should, Three times bad and three times good.” That’s a Wiccan thing, not a witchcraft thing.

It’s no where NEAR comprehensive and doesn’t give an in-depth knowledge of Wicca or Witchcraft. It doesn’t touch the REAL history of witchcraft. She provides a spell for the “Blue Wish Moon” and talks about the Blue Moon being on August 31st (which actually DID happen in 2012 and this book was published in 2015) but doesn’t explain what Blue Moon is and some beginners will walk away thinking that the Blue Moon always occurs on August 31st…and it DOESN’T! This is by far the biggest waste of $3 ever. And considering how much I love books…that says a lot!

First the author contradicts herself on more then once. As a practising witch it really bothers me that she interchanges witchcraft & Wicca! Too vague & misleading for those new/seeking guidance as well as those who who just want to know what witchcraft is all about. I do not recommend initiates to use the information in this book to make any kind of life decisions.

The book is a waste of paper and time.

This book was recommended by a friend. Luckily, I found a copy locally in the bargain bin for $1.50 and even that was more than it was worth. Besides ruining what could be considered potentially good satire and comedy with the bias and commentary of your average six-year-old, the book has become an example of its title by repeating urban legends and quoting historical "facts" that are unverifiable by established sources. Considering its bias, the historical fallacies and the urban legends presented as fact, the only conclusion one can come to for supporting this book is lack of education or a simplistic and easily amused mentality. Too bad 1 is the lowest number assignable.

Sheer stupidity! Gathered up in one source! Gotta love it!

Yes, indeed, this particular title caught my eye when I was browsing on the Humor shelves at Border's last summer. I took a look at the back description, and then flipped through the first few sections, and I then decided it was definetly worth a read!This author, who I'd never heard of before, has done an incredibly excellent job in documenting Humanity's dumb doings, from the modern age, to politics, the military, sports, science, crime, and all of the foolish and crazy historical figures that have contributed to all of history's stupidity. Admittedly, I found that I could not read this all at once, it took a period of a few weeks to absorb this tome, and take it all in and really enjoy it. Eventually, it was worth it. To tell the truth, I found this book really entertaining. Buy it for yourself sometime, you'll find that logic doesn't dictate it and declare it to be so, it's based on, yes, that's right, sheer stupidity! Hey, if you can't figure something out, just laugh at the absurdity of it all, right? But, you know, DUHHHH, that's just the way I feel! You know about some of those other things you read or watch, and that you can just feel the intelligence gradually drain from your being? No concern about that here!You'll get smarter from reading this! Hey, that's the truth! Would I lie?

With a grain of salt

First, if you can tolerate a book with such a title in your bookshelf, continue reading.
This book is divided in three parts: Chronicles, questions and advice.
The contents of the first one, the longest, are just too much... stupid. Unbelievable stupid. Surely you have already heard or read about many of them, but others will look to you just as inventions of someone to get attention (you remember those guys in junior high, don't you?).
The second part is very similart to the first one. It tries always to show that everyone in earth is stupid.
Just as in the first part, I realized that even it's a small book and easy to read (two lines to one page per chronicle), I become saturated after some minutes.
The third and last part becomes much better than the others. It gives you some interesting advice, though I cannot say how useful it would be for you.
If, by chance, you run out of topics for conversation, this book would give you plenty of them, but take them all with a grain of salt (be skeptic). I don't think it would be easy to find support for the hundreds of anecdotes in this book, that is, sources to show them true.

Classroom Lessons Transcribed

This book is actually Dr. Campbell Titchener's Feature Writing class lecture notes transcribed, and it is quite good. It's also useful for working newspaper folks to use as a reference book, to remind themselves, for instance, to include all the necessary components for a review of specific sorts of artistic endeavors.
Dr. Titchener read aloud much student work in the class I took, and he pulled no punches in evaluating the results. There was one unfortunate woman who could not capably put one word in front of another, yet she bubbled constantly about what a great writer she intended to be, all the books and plays and articles she was going to author. Dr. Titchener one day pronounced her work "trite" (he was absolutely correct), and it was extremely amusing to see the woman's cluelessly dismissive reaction, her declaration that he was "an idiot."
About three-fourths of the way into the semester, Dr. Titchener had an uncommon experience in his own life, and he wrote a short feature about it, which he read to the class. The response was brutal; students viciously ripped the piece up one page and down the other, and poor Dr. Titchener just sat there absorbing it all... sorta like body blows in a boxing match. He was the only college professor I ever encountered who had the guts to expose himself to an open-forum critique from his students, and you've really got to admire someone who has the fortitude to do that.

Good textbook for a Great Class

I took a class called "Reviewing the Arts" and this was our textbook, heavily supplemented by actual reviews from major newspapers. The book covers art, theater, music and the like. It's very readable and I only noticed one error in the name of the Martha Graham dance company, and apparently it's an error that has been there through several editions.

Overall, this would be a good read for a student or someone who is interested in writing reviews as a freelancer or for a hobby.

Great book to learn and revise your English pronunciation!

This is a great book. Very easy to understand for people without previous knowledge of phonetics. For me, that studied English as a Second Language, made me remember my classes; it also made me realize that I still have things to learn.
It is written in a very witty, refreshing way; not at all like a rigid university textbook. This feature makes it appealing for younger people, in my opinion.

this book is very good my English pronunciation has changed less in two weeks after i received the book with the cd, i listen to the cd everyday when i am talking with my friends at work i talked with confidence now, if you want to speak better English this is the best book for you.
